The neighborhood may have felt a temporary loss last Dec when Helmut Lang shuttered their meatpacking district store. But the space has been aptly filled. Opened about a month ago, IMPROVD offers casual sportswear designed by Sam Ben-Avram and Valentino Vettori with a downtown vibe—think IAN meets Helmut Lang at a lower price point—in a spacious relaxed store across from the Standard and the entrance to the High Line park. Ideal for sheer knits with diagonal zippers, asymmetrical cut dresses and snug-fitting leather jackets that you can wear like cardigans. They have a season-less feel that allows for layering in the cold months, particularly helpful when the calendar says Spring but the forecast says…it’s snowing this Friday.
